Abalone shells are a natural, heat resistant vessel that is traditionally used in smudging rituals. They hold burning sage or palo santo and catch falling ash.
You can place a thin layer of sand inside the bottom of the shell to insulate it and protect its iridescent shine from direct heat.
The shell can absorb heat from burning bundles, so let it cool completely before touching.
